Here is a list of my writing rules.  This list will change as I develop and refine.

 

 

There will be a time to follow the rules and a time to break the rules.  Be prepared for both.

 

I started saying this to myself when I noticed that my writing could get very poetic without adding to the flavor of the story.

Don’t write like you think a writer would sound like.

You area  writer.

Write like yourself.

A simple rule from very far back in my school days.  Tell the readers a story; don’t have a character tell the readers a story.

If something you are writing does not feel right, pay attention to your feeling.   Chances are some of your readers will feel it as well.
